Useful Hints/Troubleshooting
Always start pumping at minimum level
If there is no vacuum or if the pumping performance is poor, make sure the pumping system is closed (no leakages)
* Make sure the motor unit is screwed on properly
*The valve membrane needs to be clean and fit properly on the valve head; a damaged or dirty valve membrane causes less or no vacuum and needs replacing or proper cleaning
*Check proper fit of valve head on breastshield
*Check proper fit of breastshield on breast (needs to seal completely)
In case of overflow, immediately stop pumping and remove the motor unit from the breastshield and follow the below listed steps
*Wipe off any breastmilk on motor unit and breastshield with a clean tissue
* Let the motor unit air dry for at least 30 seconds
* If necessary clean the motor unit/front of the housing again
*Place the motor unit into the breastshield and continue pumping
Cleaning Guidelines for Medela Breastfeeding Products when used at home (for detailed information, check instructions for use)
Important: Disassemble all parts prior to cleaning and sterilisation. Especially be sure to remove the valve head from the breastshield and separate the white valve membrane from the valve head.
Prior to first use and once daily: Disassemble, wash, and rinse all parts (except motor units) that come in contact with the breast or the milk. Place parts in a saucepan of sufficient capacity, fill with cold water until the parts are well covered (a teaspoon of citric acid may be added to the water to avoid a build-up of lime scale), heat it up and allow to boil for 3 minutes. Remove from stove and drain the water off. Allow parts to cool and air-dry on a clean towel. Clean the motor unit of Mini Electric and Mini Electric Plus with a damp cloth only. Alternatively, the disassembled parts (except motor units) can be washed in a dishwasher.
After each use: Disassemble and wash all parts that come in contact with the breast or the milk in soapy water, rinse in clear water and allow air-drying on a clean towel.
Caution: Use of microwave sterilisation may damage some components (for example parts can melt or be deformed such as the white valve membrane and rubber seals).
