An ultrasound scan can be used for various kinds of diagnosis as stated below:

Check that the baby is developing normally |

Determine the baby's age and expected delivery date |

Check the position of the baby and the placenta, for example, before amniocentesis, or later in pregnancy to make sure the placenta is not blocking the neck of the womb. |

Detect some abnormalities, such as problems with the brain and spine |

Find out whether you are carrying more than one baby |
