Baby's first year : Rubella (German Measles)

Rubella is a very mild infection and symptoms develop about two to three weeks after catching the infection. These may include: mild cold, sore throat, rash on the face and body and swollen glands behind the ears. All children in the UK are vaccinated against rubella (MMR vaccine) as part of the immunisation program.

There is no treatment for rubella but you will need to consult your GP to confirm the diagnosis.

Although rubella is a mild infection in itself, if a pregnant woman who has not been vaccinated against it catches it, it can have very serious consequences for her unborn baby.
